Jordan Rowbottom appointed IGEM Young Persons Chair
We’re delighted to announce that Jordan Rowbottom, Squire Energy’s Head of Asset Management, has been appointed IGEM’s Young Person Chair for 2018. IGEM [Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers] is the gas industry’s chartered professional body, and is a valuable support network and resource for gas professionals across the UK.
Jordan has previously held the role of Young Person Vice-Chair, before being appointed the role of Chair by colleagues this year. As part of his new role, Jordan will be tasked with organising events across the UK, including the headline Young Persons Paper competition, as well as helping section members organise events in their local areas.
Commenting on his appointment, Jordan says, “It’s an honour to have been chosen as the Young Persons Chair for 2018. As part of my role, I hope to encourage more participation, professional registration and membership through IGEM”
Fostering a sense of community and involvement for IGEM members is high on Jordan’s agenda, as he and Kathryn Brown (Young Persons Vice-Chair) also aim to hold student events at universities for the first time, as well as holding a targeting Women in Engineering event to support women in the industry.
Jordan is also a keen advocate of encouraging young people to consider a career in the gas industry, “There are many Engineers who enter the gas industry through a variety of channels – there are so many different pathways; distribution, transmission, hydrogen, innovation, emissions, metering,” says Jordan, “I think it’s vitally important that the professional institutions such as IGEM reach out to apprentices and graduates across the country and over the coming years through holding student specific events at universities to promote a career in the gas industry.”
